A look back on 2023
Here's a round up of achievements that when we reflect on the year, we'll think, these were fun episodes, worth highlighting.
Taught 18 Watercolor Workshops
Throughout the year, I've been back to mostly in person events, which has always been my preference. Special thanks to my partners Yours Truly Hotel, Tokki Art Supply the Morrow Hotel, Smithsonian American Art Museum. We even had Anthony Fauci in attendance for our June class!
Released The Biggest Greeting Cards Series Yet
In an effort to boost our greeting card offerings, in March I designed and printed the largest grouping of new greeting cards yet. Many from this release have proven to be instant best sellers for both retail and wholesale.
Started My Family Recipe Downloads
An ongoing effort to record my family's dishes and share them with others, I'll continue to add recipe downloads to the site, available to everybody for free. These are reliable, delicious dishes that I grew up with, and are foods that that I love. I hope you enjoy them!
Created Large Format Watercolors
In April, I made a few 22"x 30" watercolors - the largest that I've ever created, and I plan to continue to make more of these. Honestly the framing is half the battle with this scale of work.
Released Cocktail Ratios Book with Michael Ruhlman
In May, Michael and I worked together for over year via zoom, email and text message perfecting illustrations to accompany his wonderful book all about classic cocktails and how they’re related to each other via a system of ratios. See the coasters, postcards and prints featuring art from the book too!
Painted a Mural at Slowrise Bakehouse
August brought over 100 degree weather I spent seven of the hottest days in Oregon painting a mural in the historic center of my hometown of Forest Grove. Special thanks to my parents and my friend Sally for all of the production assistance, support including meal delivery. If in the area, be sure to go get a morning bun and check out this piece of public art outlining five types of ancient grains that the bakery uses regularly.
Raised $5,000 for World Central Kitchen
In October, the benefit Calendar released. 100% of the Profits from the project went to non-profit partner, World Central Kitchen this year. This is the 12th year in a row where the calendar is a fundraiser for a 501c3. We will continue to donate, until all calendars are sold out!
Released New Aprons
In November, our aprons arrived just in time for all the cooking and crafting of holiday 2023! These were a year long work in progress, from the repeating pattern to the apron design.
Made Wrapping Paper
Thanks to my studio assistant Julia who got this project off the ground, we produced our own wrapping paper in November! Now if people order anything from the shop gift wrapped, they'll get it in this fun custom pattern featuring over 20 different illustrations. We're smitten. If you'd like to buy some paper alone, it's currently available in person at our DC Retail Shop.
Shared a Last Minute Philly Cheesesteak
In the throngs of busy season of Holiday Markets in December I managed to complete and produce a new watercolor art print in honor of Philadelphia. It's now available online.
