2022 Anthony Bourdain Calendar Benefitting Mental Health in the Hospitality Industry
The 2022 Calendar is here! It features the following quote:
If I’m an advocate for anything it’s to move....Walk in someone else’s shoes or at least eat their food. -Anthony Bourdain
Each year I create a calendar to honor and raise awareness for a social justice-related cause where the purchase of the Calendar supports a chosen non-profit. I always try to connect the artwork to the nonprofit in some way.
This year, I'm happy to share that all profits from the 2022 Calendar will go to the organization, Heard. The mission of Heard is to provide mental health support and make a lasting positive impact on the lives of those working in the food and beverage industry. Anyone currently employed in the industry can access services including counseling to substance abuse and suicide prevention.
My intention for this artwork is to honor and celebrate the life of Anthony Bourdain. The chef turned author and travel show host left a lasting impact on the culinary and travel world with curiosity, and unabashed honesty. Through his writing and TV shows, he focused on the exploration of culture, cuisine, and the human condition. He taught us about the world in a way that was never clear cut or absolute, and left us often asking more questions rather than providing answers. Bourdain’s death by suicide in June of 2018 was a shock to everyone, and called for a focus on mental health and wellness within our society.
Food illustration and the exploration of international cuisine have been at the core of my artwork for many years, as well as the recognition of the richness that favorite restaurants and the hospitality industry consistently add to our lives.
The strain of an international pandemic has challenged us all, especially those in the food and beverage industry, with its unpredictable and taxing environment. My hope is that in some small way, the financial support from the sale of this calendar will offer encouragement to this hard-working community seeking help for their unique challenges.
Please join me in honoring the life of Anthony Bourdain and supporting the industry he impacted so profoundly.
